The scientific name is "two-component video interface", commonly known as S terminal, and the transmission distance is about 15 meters shorter.

The S-Video connection specification is a standard developed by the Japanese, and the S stands for "SEPARATE", which separates the output of luminance and chromaticity, and avoids the mutual interference of luminance and chromaticity during the output of mixed video signals. The S interface is actually a five-core interface, which consists of two apparent brightness signals, two video chromaticity signals, and a common shielded ground wire, a total of five core wires.

Compared with the AV interface, because it no longer carries out Y/C mixed transmission, there is no need for bright color separation and decoding, and the use of independent transmission channels avoids the image distortion caused by signal crosstalk in the video equipment to a large extent, and greatly improves the clarity of the image.

However, S-Video still needs to mix two chromatic aberration signals (Cr Cb) into a chroma signal C, transmit it, and then decode it into Cb and Cr in the display device for processing, which will still bring a certain amount of signal loss and distortion (this distortion is very small, but it can still be found when tested under strict broadcast video equipment). And because the mixing of Cr Cb leads to a certain limitation on the bandwidth of the chromaticity signal, S-Video is far from perfect, although it is already relatively good. S-Video isn't the best, but it's one of the most widely used video interfaces, given the current market conditions and other factors such as overall cost.
